Al Hamra Fort Hotel

This weekend we drove through several emirates - Sharjah, then Umm Al Quwwein, until we arrived in Ras Al Kaimah - actually only a journey of about an hour. We had arranged with Andrew and Cheryl Henderson and their son Alex to spend a night at the Al Hamra Fort Hotel. What a lovely place - like a little bit of Fiji really - there were a number of similarities with the Shangri La, where we used to stay in Fiji - except it's a lot closer! What was different was that when we arrived on the Friday (about lunchtime) there were lots (and I mean lots) of gorgeous girls at the front door. Turns out they were the Miss Germany contestants. Sadly they boarded a bus and we did not see them again...

It's a great place - beautiful beach, great pools, nice big breakfast, several restaurants, mini golf, golf course, tennis courts. We will definitely go back - the fact that it's only an hours drive is great.
Jack did some pretty impressive colouring in as we were having lunch on the first day - we thought it was worthy of the blog.

Finally, as we travelled back we made the obligatory stop beside a big sand dune - this one was a fairly impressive one as you can see. We also had to slow and then stop for camels crossing the road as we drove back - which was an experience none of us have had before! We also stopped at the Barracuda - where everyone goes to buy cheap alcohol. We stocked up like the best of them - including some dark rum for Ian and Viv...
